CA Marine Services delivered two crucial upgrades to P&O Australia’s Pacific Encounter during her three-week dry dock in Sembawang Shipyard, Singapore in February 2023. We provided two project supervision and management teams who were tasked with delivering the NACO’s Platinum Navigation System Installation and vital cabling upgrade for the onboard WIFI network.
Within days of receiving the order for these projects our procurement and logistics team set to work organising visas, flights and procuring over 10,000m of various cables and specialty tooling required for the installation.
We planned for both major projects to be completed concurrently with the teams dividing into two specialties, NACO’s and WIFI.
Sebastian Calero our Project Supervisor headed the WIFI & WAP installation leading a team of 30 working extended hours on rotating shifts. The first phase of the onsite works was the installation of 5 network hubs throughout various parts of the ship, which was completed at sea prior to the ship reaching its dry dock. Phase Two involved 7 teams comprising of welders, fibre optic technicians, cable teams and carpenters that systematically laid cable and made penetrations where necessary. Finally, during the last week of the dry dock, teams were tasked with closing the penetrations and installing 5 WAP (Wireless Access Points) Finally we underwent our snagging and quality control troubleshooting period before sign-off from the ship.
The NACO’s Platinum system is a third-generation integrated bridge system (IBS) and will provide the vessel with an additional decade of latest navigation solution. Our team of 14, headed by Lincoln Avendano maintained the schedule and reported progress daily to Project Managers and Implementation managers within P&O’s selected team. Our specialised fibre-optic technicians worked in close communication with commissioning engineers throughout the project. In total we supplied an installed over 1500m of fibre optic cable, 1500m of power cable and 2500m of Cat 7 cable.
Additional work included changing the AIS antennas and VDR units allowing seamless connection to the control in the ship's bridge.
